Charter members – Bro. Henry T. McMillian, Bro. Samuel Mac Watson, Bro. Edward F. Aarons, M.D., Bro. Simon W. Boyd, DDS, Bro. Stephen Henderson, Sr., and Bro. Sylvester Perryman. Beta Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., received its charter and was formally set up by Bro. J.T. Brooks of Alabama State Teachers College of Montgomery, AL on December 21, 1946. Bro. J.T. Brooks was the District Representative of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. for the 7th district which comprises the states of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi the officers of the local chapter which is the first African American Greek letter fraternity to be chartered in Pensacola. Bro. Samuel Mac Watson/Basileus, Bro. Edward F. Aarons, Jr., MD/Vice Basileus, Bro. John A Davis/Keeper of Records and Seal, and Bro. Henry T. McMillian. An initiation was held at the same time that the chapter was organized in Pensacola and the following members were initiated, Professor Bro. Stephen Henderson, Sr., and Professor Bro. Harold Andrews faculty of Booker T. Washington High School, and Bro. Clarence Devalt, manager of Central Life Insurance Company, the ceremonies took place at the Sunset Riding Club. The initiation was also attended by Bro. Herschel Williams (Basileus) of Rho Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. in Mobile, Alabama. Bro. Henry T. McMillian has an Escambia County School District building in the district. In addition, Dr. Simon W. Boyd, DDS has a building named after him at the Pensacola State College. Beta Omicron was the only African American organization in Escambia that participated in the Escambia County School District’s Science and History Fair year after year. The chapter’s Que Capade is held annually to fund the scholarship program.
